Redefining Data Management

Simply management of file data at scale, anywhere.

The IT Press Tour had the opportunity to meet with executives from Qumulo to learn how their company and solution are evolving.

Today, file data is at the center of the modern human experience. However, storage technology was not built for today's challenges: exponential volume, accelerated cloud, and hyperactive data. The result is enterprises are unable to scale at the pace needed. Costs and complexity are out-of-control. They are unable to support rapid file changes, There are huge blind spots with data sprawl. Manual tasks overwhelm everyone responsible.

Qumulo believes the way to manage enterprise file data at scale, anywhere is with radical simplicity. Store petabytes of data securely on-prem and in the cloud. Manage with real-time visibility and predictive caching. Build automated workflows and applications with a comprehensive API.

The last successful file storage architectures were created more than 15 years ago. Since then there have been significant IT advances like virtual everything, analog to digital, public clouds, service-oriented architecture, software-as-a-service, DevOps, Flash, big data/analytics, software-defined networks and data centers, IoT, hyper-converged infrastructures, AI/ML, and containers.

In response, Qumulo has built flash-first hybrid architecture optimized for both fast reads and writes. A hybrid intelligent predictive cache enables fast reads and identifies read I/O patterns and pre-fetches subsequent related data from disks into solid-state drives. Proactive prefetch enables fast reads. By anticipating that the files will likely be read in large, parallel batches, Qumulo proactively moves data to the fastest media (RAM).

Qumulo performs even with a full filesystem and manages the full data lifecycle -- ingest, transform, publish, and archive. The technology portfolio scales across on-prem and cloud environments.

Use Cases

  • The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IMHE) was able to respond in just 48 hours to the onslaught of COVID-19 projections leveraged by governments and health organizations worldwide.

  • Vexcel Imaging simply adds nodes to the existing cluster and the performance scales with the nodes added while real-time analytics delivers better insights.

  • Cinesite Studios moved 16K video rendering to AWS. When a greater scale is needed, Cinesite easily moves workloads for offsite rendering.

  • Hyundai MOBIS build autonomous car function by analyzing hundreds of hours of video data from crash tests.
