Unified Unstructured Data Management During and After COVID

An accelerated need to analyze, move, manage, and modernize how data is accessed and secured.

The IT Press Tour had the opportunity to meet with Piyush Mehta, CEO of Data Dynamics to learn how COVID has affected their business and that of their clients.

According to Piyush, COVID has accelerated the complexity in IT environments. Distributed and remote work environments have increased data sprawl. The more rapid adoption of cloud environments moving workloads to an OPEX model. Sensitive data exposure has accelerated data privacy and security issues at both the executive and board levels.

Date bottlenecks create business bottlenecks. As such, the data-driven enterprise is focused on storage optimization, risk mitigation, and data governance to create business value. Point solutions do not address enterprise-scale data management issues.

A unified unstructured data management platform eliminates silos by addressing the needs of infrastructure and operation leaders, Chief Information Security Officers, and Chief Data Officers with storage efficiency and optimization, privacy risk management, and data orchestration and pipeline management.

Data Dynamics' unified unstructured data management platform has two primary components. StorageX provides enterprise file storage management using policy-based automation to index, report, and manage your infrastructure. Use cases include optimizing storage infrastructure, hybrid cloud file management, intelligent archival, and heterogeneous data migration. Insight Analytix uses artificial intelligence-driven file content analytics with the ability to search, discover, and classify privacy risk and other identifiable information. Use cases include identification of PII data and sensitive information, assessment of industry compliance (GDPR, HIPPA, CCPA), and privacy risk management and data control.

Piyush shared two case studies.

  • A European oil and gas company accelerated its cloud adoption with StorageX. They closed a 600 TB data center, migrated data to ANF, and kept ownership and access. 250+ volumes and had 45 days to move. They were able to migrate files to ANF Ultra and tier files with ANF Ultra and Standard in only 20 days. They realized a 15X improvement in productivity and a 75% reduction in project costs.

  • A Fortune 100 manufacturing company optimized its storage using StorageX. Multiple business units collected and stored data on disparate infrastructure around the world. They needed insight into their storage footprint, ownership, and the age of their data. They successfully identified storage inefficiencies scanning 1 Petabyte of data in a day. Inactive data accounted for 53% of the capacity on Tier 1 storage. Orphaned data accounted for 12% of additional capacity on Tier 1 storage. ROT data accounted for an additional 9% more capacity on Tier 1 storage. 74% of data was moved to the archive and the company saved 51%, more than $2.5 million versus their legacy environment.
